Desde esta perspectiva de aprendizaje e inter\u00e9s en el desarrollo social, se plantean las bases de los procesos elaborados con la comunidad en un esfuerzo por construir conocimiento de manera colectiva, siendo nuestro af\u00e1n el poder elaborar insumos que puedan ser aprovechados por la comunidad en pro de su crecimiento y beneficio, a la vez que aprendemos de nuevas interpretaciones del territorio y del entendimiento de la memoria colectiva de la mano a las personas que conforman la comunidad.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
El abordaje de estudio se enfoca en analizar las diversas situaciones de gentrificaci\u00f3n, ocupaciones ilegales, condiciones inadecuadas, falta de servicios para todas las personas e inequidades espaciales muy marcadas, dadas a ra\u00edz de una r\u00e1pida y constante transformaci\u00f3n territorial desplanificada, debido a que no cuentan con mecanismos de ordenamiento y regulaci\u00f3n adaptados a una realidad inmediata.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Esto lo convierte en un territorio con una necesidad de ser entendido y a su vez de buscar las oportunidades que estos mismos fen\u00f3menos emergentes pueden generar para tener una injerencia positiva en las pol\u00edticas territoriales y de apropiaci\u00f3n de los habitantes. Para dicho proceso se trabaj\u00f3 en conjunto con la comunidad de Santa Teresa de C\u00f3bano en Puntarenas.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n

\u00bfC\u00f3mo lo estamos haciendo?<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n Los m\u00e9todos para ejecutar lo antes mencionado, se desarrollaron a partir de procesos participativos, en donde miembros de la comunidad compartieron junto a nosotros su forma de vivir los espacios, sus necesidades e ideas, para as\u00ed poder comprender las relaciones existentes entre las personas, el entorno natural, rural y su identidad en el mismo.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Adem\u00e1s de esto se estuvo, de manera cercana, trabajando junto con entes gubernamentales y de representaci\u00f3n comunal, siendo estos un enlace de conocimiento y validaci\u00f3n de las decisiones generadas en cada proceso. Ha sido un trabajo en equipo entre la comunidad y el taller, en donde se escuch\u00f3, se discuti\u00f3 y se trabaj\u00f3 de manera conjunta y horizontal, respetando los saberes y aportes de cada persona, para de esta manera construir y crear juntos nuevas respuestas a las necesidades del territorio y la comunidad.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Nuestra intenci\u00f3n, m\u00e1s que generar un resultado de dise\u00f1o, es enfocar el valor que tienen estas acciones participativas tanto en las personas como en el territorio. Para nosotros es importante la democratizaci\u00f3n del poder y la descentralizaci\u00f3n de la arquitectura. Entendemos que todas las personas tienen la capacidad para diagnosticar, decidir y planificar lo que es bueno para el bienestar com\u00fan y c\u00f3mo esta delegaci\u00f3n de poder puede propiciar e incrementar el empoderamiento, la conciencia y la apropiaci\u00f3n del territorio en las personas de la comunidad.<\/p>\n\n\n\n En los talleres la comunidad aporta sus ideas y opiniones. Fotograf\u00eda de JETT<\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n \u00bfCu\u00e1l es la importancia o el impacto?<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n Nuestro objetivo es buscar inspiraci\u00f3n en el crear justicia de manera colectiva, incentivar el crear arquitectura como un equipo y motivar a la comunidad, as\u00ed como, a los gobiernos locales involucrados, a reconocer la importancia de estos procesos, donde las voces no son solo para hablar, sino que tambi\u00e9n son para ser escuchadas de manera emp\u00e1tica y para la acci\u00f3n.<\/p>\n\n\n\n De esta manera descentralizar la toma decisiones en espacios que le pertenecen a un colectivo que busca el bien com\u00fan por la justicia espacial, donde debe existir una equiparaci\u00f3n coherente de oportunidades y aprovechamiento del espacio, sin olvidar que compartimos un territorio, este territorio deber\u00eda ser justo, aunque no puede ser igual para todos, debe existir una equidad o una equiparaci\u00f3n para eliminar o disminuir las injusticias espaciales.<\/p>\n\n\n\n <\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n \u00bfPor qu\u00e9 Santa Teresa?<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n En los \u00faltimos 10 a\u00f1os, Santa Teresa ha experimentado un crecimiento acelerado, impulsado principalmente por el turismo del Surf y la belleza de las playas de El Carmen, Hermosa, Santa Teresa y Malpa\u00eds. Aunque el dif\u00edcil acceso a la zona ha sido considerado un atributo valioso en t\u00e9rminos paisaj\u00edsticos, este crecimiento no ha sido acompa\u00f1ado por un plan de desarrollo que gu\u00ede estrat\u00e9gicamente la construcci\u00f3n de un sentido de comunidad y bienestar para todos sus habitantes. <\/p>\n\n\n\n La combinaci\u00f3n de un crecimiento tur\u00edstico acelerado y la falta de un plan de desarrollo adecuado puede llevar a diversas situaciones problem\u00e1ticas, como la gentrificaci\u00f3n, las ocupaciones ilegales y las condiciones inadecuadas para la comunidad local. Adem\u00e1s, la carencia de servicios b\u00e1sicos para todas las personas y las marcadas inequidades espaciales pueden profundizar a\u00fan m\u00e1s las brechas sociales y generar tensiones dentro de la comunidad.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Es en este contexto donde se hace imperativo estudiar a fondo la zona y entender sus particularidades y desaf\u00edos. <\/p>\n\n\n\n Por lo tanto, un estudio profundo y exhaustivo de la zona permite identificar las \u00e1reas cr\u00edticas que requieren intervenci\u00f3n inmediata y establecer una hoja de ruta para abordar estos desaf\u00edos de manera sostenible y equitativa. Adem\u00e1s al entender la topograf\u00eda, la distribuci\u00f3n de recursos y la din\u00e1mica social, ser\u00e1 posible dise\u00f1ar soluciones que aprovechen los recursos naturales de manera responsable y mejoren la calidad de vida de los residentes. Asimismo, el estudio permitir\u00e1 crear estrategias para proteger el medio ambiente y asegurar un crecimiento sostenible que no comprometa la belleza y la riqueza ecol\u00f3gica de la regi\u00f3n.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n Conceptos Clave con los que dialoga el Taller JETT<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n \u00bfQu\u00e9 es la justicia?<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n Es en principio el acceso al derecho inseparable que tienen los ciudadanos en su h\u00e1bitat para su bienestar, donde tienen la oportunidad de participar y ser parte del desarrollo de este, a trav\u00e9s de las experiencias compartidas en relaci\u00f3n con el territorio. Es cuando las personas pueden opinar, cuestionar y escoger, siendo tomado\/a en cuenta como un agente importante de cambio. La justicia se interpreta a trav\u00e9s del control colectivo sobre un territorio, es el derecho a participar. La justicia no se trata de darle espacio a todos si no de restablecer equilibrios en temas de igualdad a trav\u00e9s de la equidad.<\/p>\n\n\n\n \u00bfQu\u00e9 es el espacio?<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n Se entiende como las diferentes configuraciones morfol\u00f3gicas y f\u00edsicas, pero que tambi\u00e9n puede estar ligado a aspectos simb\u00f3licos e inmateriales. Los dos son importantes y no pueden estar desconectados, ya que el ser humano junto a sus actividades y relaciones sociales, le dan sentido al espacio, pero a su vez, el espacio puede influir o condicionar cuales actividades y cu\u00e1les relaciones sociales pueden desarrollarse en \u00e9l. Es en el espacio en donde converge la diversidad y por ende todo tipo de conflictos que derivan en justicias o injusticias.<\/p>\n\n\n\n \u00bfQu\u00e9 es el territorio?<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n Se puede comprender el territorio como la conformaci\u00f3n a gran escala de un conjunto espec\u00edfico de espacialidades que est\u00e1n determinadas por una regi\u00f3n o poblaci\u00f3n particular. El territorio al poseer connotaciones de conjunto tambi\u00e9n posee caracter\u00edsticas de sociedad, por lo cual est\u00e1 ligado al constante cambio, el mismo no es est\u00e1tico, se encuentra en movimiento gracias a las relaciones sociales o al desarrollo de esta sociedad, es por esto por lo que tiende a ser adaptable-modificable- flexible.<\/p>\n\n\n\n \u00bfQu\u00e9 es la r\u00e1pida transformaci\u00f3n?<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n Los procesos de transformaci\u00f3n son resultados inseparables al desarrollo natural y org\u00e1nico de los territorios. Esto trae consigo muchas oportunidades, pero cuando esos procesos est\u00e1n permeados por impulsos que promueven alteraciones m\u00e1s aceleradas en relaci\u00f3n con el tiempo y las capacidades de carga del territorio y sin una correcta planificaci\u00f3n, es cuando comienza el desarrollo desequilibrado del territorio que provoca fen\u00f3menos de desigualdad, insostenibilidad ambiental y p\u00e9rdida de equilibrio entre los \u00e1mbitos de lo p\u00fablico y lo privado. Cuando un territorio crece a grandes velocidades, es dif\u00edcil llevar el control sobre este, provocando que la rapidez de su transformaci\u00f3n traiga resultados que provocan desigualdad social-f\u00edsica entre los seres que habitan el espacio de esta sociedad.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n Estos principios y conceptos son los que han guiado el trabajo de JETT hacia la creaci\u00f3n de diversas propuestas en conjunto con la comunidad en varios talleres participativos que se han llevado a cabo en Santa Teresa. Las propuestas incluyen desde accesibilidad para todo tipo de personas hasta mejoras en la seguridad, integraci\u00f3n de espacios naturales y parques y convivencia de zonas peatonales y vehiculares. Pr\u00f3ximamente veremos con m\u00e1s detalles en qu\u00e9 consistieron esos talleres y cu\u00e1les son las propuestas que con voluntad pol\u00edtica y vecinal podr\u00edan llevarse a cabo.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n Informaci\u00f3n y redacci\u00f3n por el Equipo JETT.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Edici\u00f3n por Elena Parras, fundadora de Santa Teresa Hoy.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n Architecture students from the University of Costa Rica develop proposals in Santa Teresa<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n During the last months JETT has been developing some projects in Santa Teresa and surroundings with the participation of the community and now they tell us what their work consists of and what their values \u200b\u200bare, in addition to exposing some important concepts to take into account in places like the Cobano district.<\/p>\n\n\n\n JETT is a work group made up of students of the professional cycle of the School of Architecture of the University of Costa Rica, with the technical advice of the leading professors of the course. Its acronym stands for Spatial Justice and Territories in Rapid Transformation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n \u201cWe, as a team, are interested in developing design proposals that respond to the community needs of the population and we see the focus of architecture as a tool for social transformation as essential. We are united by an interest in the development of participatory processes that facilitate the coalition between the academy and the community, deepening our growth as future professionals, immersed in a context of immediate reality to the site and those involved.<\/p>\n\n\n\n We share the same interest in the democratization of power and the decentralization of the work of architecture, which is not only for architects, but is shared among the different people who make up a community, as well as government entities and community associations. We believe that all people have the ability to decide on their territory, since they are the people who know their own needs, their own interests and are the ones who can create important changes if they work and learn collectively.<\/p>\n\n\n\n What are we doing?<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n From this perspective of learning and interest in social development, the bases of the processes elaborated with the community are proposed in an effort to build knowledge collectively, our desire being to be able to elaborate inputs that can be used by the community in favor of its growth and benefit, while we learn from new interpretations of the territory and the understanding of the collective memory hand in hand with the people who make up the community.<\/p>\n\n\n\n The study approach focuses on analyzing the various situations of gentrification, illegal occupations, inadequate conditions, lack of services for all people and very marked spatial inequities, given as a result of a rapid and constant unplanned territorial transformation, because they do not count with ordering and regulation mechanisms adapted to an immediate reality.<\/p>\n\n\n\n This makes it a territory with a need to be understood and in turn to seek the opportunities that these same emerging phenomena can generate to have a positive interference in the territorial policies and appropriation of the inhabitants. For this process, we worked together with the community of Santa Teresa de C\u00f3bano in Puntarenas.<\/p>\n\n\n\n How are we doing it?<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n The methods to execute the aforementioned were developed from participatory processes, where members of the community shared with us their way of living the spaces, their needs and ideas, in order to understand the relationships between people, the natural, rural environment and their identity in it.<\/p>\n\n\n\n In addition to this, we were closely working together with government entities and community representation, being these a link for knowledge and validation of the decisions generated in each process. It has been a team effort between the community and the workshop, where they listened, discussed and worked jointly and horizontally, respecting the knowledge and contributions of each person, in order to build and create together new responses to the needs of the territory and the community.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Our intention, more than generating a design result, is to focus on the value that these participatory actions have both in people and in the territory. For us, the democratization of power and the decentralization of architecture are important. We understand that all people have the capacity to diagnose, decide and plan what is good for the common well-being and how this delegation of power can promote and increase empowerment, awareness and appropriation of the territory in the people of the community.<\/p>\n\n\n\n What is the importance or impact?<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n Our goal is to seek inspiration in creating justice collectively, encourage creating architecture as a team, and motivate the community, as well as the local governments involved, to recognize the importance of these processes, where the voices are not only for speaking, but are also to be listened to empathically and for action.<\/p>\n\n\n\n In this way, decentralize decision-making in spaces that belong to a group that seeks the common good for spatial justice, where there must be a coherent equalization of opportunities and use of space, without forgetting that we share a territory, this territory should be fair, although it cannot be the same for everyone, there must be equity or an equalization to eliminate or reduce spatial injustices.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Why Santa Teresa?<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n In the last 10 years, Santa Teresa has experienced rapid growth, driven mainly by surf tourism and the beauty of the beaches of El Carmen, Hermosa, Santa Teresa and Malpa\u00eds. Although the difficult access to the area has been considered a valuable attribute in landscape terms, this growth has not been accompanied by a development plan that strategically guides the construction of a sense of community and well-being for all its inhabitants.<\/p>\n\n\n\n The combination of rapid tourism growth and the lack of a proper development plan can lead to various problematic situations, such as gentrification, illegal occupations, and unsuitable conditions for the local community. In addition, the lack of basic services for all people and the marked spatial inequalities can further deepen the social gaps and generate tensions within the community.<\/p>\n\n\n\n It is in this context that it is imperative to study the area in depth and understand its peculiarities and challenges.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Therefore, a deep and exhaustive study of the area makes it possible to identify the critical areas that require immediate intervention and establish a roadmap to address these challenges in a sustainable and equitable manner. In addition, by understanding the topography, the distribution of resources and the social dynamics, it will be possible to design solutions that use natural resources responsibly and improve the quality of life of residents. Likewise, the study will allow the creation of strategies to protect the environment and ensure sustainable growth that does not compromise the beauty and ecological wealth of the region.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n Key Concepts with which the JETT Workshop dialogues<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n What is justice?<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n In principle, it is access to the inseparable right that citizens have in their habitat for their well-being, where they have the opportunity to participate and be part of its development, through shared experiences in relation to the territory. It is when people can give their opinion, question and choose, being taken into account as an important agent of change. Justice is interpreted through collective control over a territory, it is the right to participate. Justice is not about giving space to everyone, but about restoring balances on issues of equality through equity.<\/p>\n\n\n\n What is space?<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n It is understood as the different morphological and physical configurations, but it can also be linked to symbolic and immaterial aspects. The two are important and cannot be disconnected, since the human being, together with their activities and social relationships, give meaning to the space, but in turn, the space can influence or condition which activities and which social relationships can be developed in it. It is in the space where diversity converges and therefore all kinds of conflicts that result in justice or injustice.<\/p>\n\n\n\n What is the territory?<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n Territory can be understood as the large-scale conformation of a specific set of spatialities that are determined by a particular region or population. The territory, having connotations as a whole, also has characteristics of society, for which it is linked to constant change, it is not static, it is in movement thanks to social relations or the development of this society, which is why it tends to be adaptable-modifiable-flexible.<\/p>\n\n\n\n What is rapid transformation?<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n The transformation processes are inseparable results to the natural and organic development of the territories. This brings with it many opportunities, but when these processes are permeated by impulses that promote more accelerated alterations in relation to time and the carrying capacities of the territory and without proper planning, it is when the unbalanced development of the territory begins, causing phenomena of inequality, environmental unsustainability and loss of balance between the public and private spheres. When a territory grows at high speeds, it is difficult to control it, causing the speed of its transformation to bring results that cause social-physical inequality among the beings that inhabit the space of this society.<\/p>\n\n\n\n These principles and concepts are what have guided JETT’s work towards the creation of various proposals together with the community in various participatory workshops that have been carried out in Santa Teresa. The proposals range from accessibility for all types of people to improvements in security, integration of natural spaces and parks, and coexistence of pedestrian and vehicular areas.
