Hace unos d\u00edas Santa Teresa Hoy<\/em> tuvo la oportunidad de reunirse con do\u00f1a Elsie Hidalgo S\u00e1nchez, directora de la Escuela de Santa Teresa desde 2021.\u00a0 En esta reuni\u00f3n la se\u00f1ora Hidalgo nos compart\u00eda la situaci\u00f3n de la escuela, en la que est\u00e1n matriculados 261 ni\u00f1os y ni\u00f1as que tienen que acudir en dos turnos porque no hay aulas ni profesores suficientes para que todos puedan pasar el d\u00eda entero en el centro.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n En la actualidad la mitad de los ni\u00f1os acuden de 7am a 11.30am y la otra mitad de 12.10pm a 4.40pm lo que pone en una situaci\u00f3n complicada a los padres y madres que trabajan en jornada completa y adem\u00e1s, en ocasiones, hermanos de la misma familia tienen horarios diferentes. Esto, explica do\u00f1a Elsie, se traduce en un gran absentismo escolar y adem\u00e1s desventaja en cuanto al aprendizaje ya que no tienen tiempo de cubrir el curr\u00edculo completo. <\/p>\n\n\n\n Otra situaci\u00f3n que viven tanto estudiantes como docentes es el intenso calor que se registra dentro de las aulas. Seg\u00fan nos explic\u00f3 la directora de la instituci\u00f3n, el MEP (Ministerio de Educaci\u00f3n P\u00fablica) provee a la escuela de un presupuesto que se destina en su mayor parte a alimentos y transportes, dejando un restante que se utiliza para la adquisici\u00f3n de materiales did\u00e1cticos y de limpieza. <\/p>\n\n\n\n No existe un presupuesto destinado espec\u00edficamente a la climatizaci\u00f3n del centro por lo que con colectas han podido adquirir algunos equipos de aire acondicionado. El a\u00f1o pasado una empresa privada les don\u00f3 uno pero por no tener la potencia necesaria, no funcionaba bien y lo est\u00e1n desinstalando. El \u00faltimo fue donado por un conocido hotel<\/a> de la zona y esperan instalarlo en las pr\u00f3ximas semanas. Seg\u00fan nos explicaba do\u00f1a Elsie, es posible ver claramente c\u00f3mo el rendimiento y la proactividad de los estudiantes en aulas con aire acondicionado es mayor que en aquellas que no lo tienen. En la actualidad est\u00e1n necesitando dos equipos m\u00e1s.\u00a0<\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n Al terminar la reuni\u00f3n preguntamos cu\u00e1les ser\u00edan otras necesidades que la escuela tiene y do\u00f1a Elsie fue clara \u201cnecesitamos 5 aulas m\u00e1s para que todos los estudiantes puedan tener jornada completa en la escuela, recibir tres comidas (desayuno, almuerzo y snack) y tambi\u00e9n optar a asignaturas del curr\u00edculo como deporte, arte, rob\u00f3tica\u2026 y puedan desarrollar gustos y habilidades para los que ahora no tienen la oportunidad\u201d. La escuela tiene el espacio para construir estas cinco aulas, y con m\u00e1s aulas, el MEP puede destinar m\u00e1s profesores a la zona y tambi\u00e9n aumentar el presupuesto. <\/p>\n\n\n\n Do\u00f1a Elsie pone su tel\u00e9fono a disposici\u00f3n para quien necesite aclarar cualquier duda y saber m\u00e1s sobre las necesidades de la escuela. At this meeting, Mrs. Hidalgo shared with us the situation of the school, in which 261 boys and girls are enrolled but have to attend in two shifts because there are not enough classrooms or teachers for everyone to spend the entire day at the center.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Currently, half of the children come from 7am to 11.30am and the other half from 12.10pm to 4.40pm, which puts parents who work full-time in a complicated situation. Sometimes, siblings of the same family have different schedules. This, explains Mrs. Elsie, translates into high school absenteeism and also a disadvantage in terms of learning since they do not have time to cover the entire curriculum.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Another situation that both students and teachers experience is the intense heat that occurs inside the classrooms. As the director of the institution explained to us, the MEP (Ministry of Public Education) provides the school with a budget that is mostly allocated to food and transportation, leaving a remainder that is used for the acquisition of teaching materials and cleaning.<\/p>\n\n\n\n There is no budget specifically allocated to the air conditioning of the center, so with collections they have been able to purchase some air conditioning equipment. Last year a private company donated one to them but because it did not have the necessary power, it did not work well and they are uninstalling it. The last one was donated by a well-known hotel<\/a> in the area and they hope to install it in the coming weeks. As Mrs. Elsie explained to us, it is possible to clearly see how the performance and proactivity of students in classrooms with air conditioning is greater than in those that do not have it. They are currently needing two more air conditioning units.<\/p>\n\n\n\n At the end of the meeting we asked what other needs the school has and Ms. Elsie was clear \u201cwe need 5 more classrooms so that all students can have a full day at school, receive three meals (breakfast, lunch and snack) and also opt for curriculum subjects such as sports, art, robotics… and can develop tastes and skills for which they now do not have the opportunity.\u00bb The school has the space to build these five classrooms, and with more classrooms, the MEP can allocate more teachers to the area and also increase the budget.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Mrs. Elsie makes her phone available for anyone who needs to clarify any questions and learn more about the school’s needs.
