This morning the group of athletes left the Golfito Marina and will be rowing 309 nautical miles (572 km) towards the north of Costa Rica for 9 days in order to raise funds for the Origen Foundation.

Since 2021, the Orígen Foundation has been promoting educational projects to boost better opportunities in vulnerable and coastal communities as well as conservation programs and sustainable tourism practices. From Origen they are aware of the inequalities that exist in the tourist areas of Guanacaste and Puntarenas, where despite the convergence of visitors with high purchasing power, temporary jobs are usually created, with low salaries and few guarantees. These coastal areas are located far from the Central Valley and educational and labor development is usually less than in the Greater Metropolitan Area.

In this case, with the journey that began today in Golfito and will end next December 8 in Papagayo, the aim is to raise funds to finance the “Origin Learning Experience” program that provides skills to young people between 18 and 25 years old to work in the tourism sector.

On Thursday, December 5, they will be arriving to the coasts of the Cóbano district from Playa Herradura to make a stop and continue their trip north the next day. Arrival is expected around 1pm in Santa Teresa (waiting for more details). You can follow their journey here.

They already have more than 26 sponsors and are also receiving donations via Sinpe Móvil at 8638-3498 or by bank transfer to the BAC IBAN CR41010200009531749501.
