The deadline for submitting the agenda of sporting events in alliance with the Latin American Sports Tourism Network is open

Cóbano is the first local government in Costa Rica to belong to the Latin American Sports Tourism Network, made up of some 16 municipalities from 7 Latin American countries. The district joined this network in October 2024.

Founded in 2022, this Network aims to contribute to the development of sports tourism in an associative manner through actions that enhance the sports and tourism ecosystem of the Latin American region. These actions will be in accordance with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) of the United Nations (UN) and will seek to become an example to follow worldwide by incorporating key themes such as local development, sustainability, inclusion, innovation, sporting heritage and peace.

El día On January 28, 2025, a meeting took place with representatives of various sports disciplines practiced in the district of Cóbano (football, surfing, cycling, beach volleyball, trail running and motorcycling), the municipal sports committee and the municipal mayor, Ronny Montero. This meeting had the purpose of promoting a rapprochement, learning about the different disciplines that are practiced, their needs and generating a schedule of sports activities of tourist interest that occur throughout the year, especially in the low season months, to mitigate unemployment, crime, and other social situations. This schedule is a requirement of the Latin American Sports Tourism Network and there is time to present the events until February 15, 2025.
