Nicoya Peninsula Waterkeeper, the Municipal Council of Cóbano, the Ministry of Health and with the support of the communities of the District of Cóbano, in June 2024 they will be carrying out the fourth Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment campaign (RAEE by its acronym in Spanish).
From 2021 to 2023, a total of 50.7 tons of RAEE were recovered, which thanks to the effort and joint work at the community level in the District of Cóbano, did not end up in rivers, forests, vacant lots, or even in the ocean, contaminating the environment and affecting human health.
But how much can they affect us?
Did you know that just one phone contains enough lead and arsenic to kill 10 people? And that a television contaminates up to 80,000 liters of water?
For this reason, it is vitally important to deliver waste electrical and electronic equipment to authorized managers and not to illegal collectors, since they might not have the necessary technology to properly disassemble this type of special handling waste, which can release hazardous substances and materials (toxic, flammable, corrosive and explosive) to the environment without proper treatment.

WHERE CAN I DELIVER THEM?
On June 10, 12 and 13, 2024, collection routes for Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment will be carried out in different communities in the District of Cóbano. The route will begin at 9:00 am, so it is recommended to leave your waste on the side of the main street clean, without water and without garbage.
If you do not live near the main street, there will be temporary collection points in different communities in the district so you can deliver them.
What can be collected?
Electronic cards, servers, switches, cell phones, tablets, laptops, power supplies, hard drives, cpu, routers, printers, scanners, photocopiers, fax machines, washing machines, dryers, freezers, refrigerators, cold chambers, dishwashers, screens flat appliances, small appliances, microwaves, kitchens, video game consoles, air conditioning units, power tools, fans, electronic toys, cameras, calculators and digital watches, walkie talkie, vaporizers, TV controls and others, recorders and sound equipment, vacuum machines , toasters, air fryers, headphones, DVDs, clothes irons, electric shavers, video projectors, USB flash drives, digital medical equipment.
